Accessibility

6-9 August 2026 | Peak District

We aim to create an inclusive and accessible environment for all participants and are committed to accommodating the diverse needs of our attendees wherever possible.

Prefer the information in a different format or if you have any further questions please contact using our queries and requests form.

Accommodation

  • We are hosting the festival at Thornbridge Outdoors. See their detailed access guide here:

    Thornbrige Outdoors Accessibility Guide

    • The majority of common spaces are wheelchair accessible and suitable for those with mobility needs. We aim for all group events, key meeting points and core activities to take place in these spaces - where this cannot happen for any reason, all alternative options will be explored.

    • There is accessible, gravel parking outside of the accommodation blocks.

    • There are tarmac paths around the site to navigate the grounds. We are seeking to increase wheelchair access to the grass lawn by laying additional track matting. See the site map here and please let us know if you have any questions.

    • There will be a dedicated wellbeing and quiet room intended for those who wish to take a break from activities. Within the room there will be resources including stim toys and colouring pens and paper. We will also have a prayer room intended for individuals of all faiths and beliefs, if you wish to take a break from main activities at any point.

Please contact us at festival@wanderersofcolour.com if you have any further questions.

  • Two of the three accommodation buildings at Thornbridge are wheelchair accessible and suitable for those with mobility needs. This includes:

    • Ground level access throughout the building to a communal kitchen and lounge area.

    • Accessible facilities such as a wet room and accessible bathroom.

    • Specialist equipment such as a mounted hoist and mobile hoist.

View the floorplan, pictures and full details of adaptive equipment here:

Please let us know via the booking form if you require accessible accommodation, e.g. step-free access, a lower bunk bed, an accessible bathroom.

Unfortunately, access to specialist equipment is limited. Please let us know your requirements as soon as possible and we will be in touch to ensure that we have the best chance at meeting your needs.

Courses and Activities

We consulted with the community before deciding on what courses to offer and have aimed to cover a range of climbing activities suitable for all different abilities.

When booking your ticket, you will have an option to inform the team of any accessibility requirements. We will then check that these adjustments are possible for the courses you have selected and will be in touch if anything remains to be discussed.

In addition, we:

  • Provide an inclusivity briefing pack for all instructors and facilitators.

  • Offer a bespoke training session for all instructors and facilitators led by Equity, Diversity and Inclusion specialist and community member Lawrence Blackwood.

  • Have preferentially hired instructors who have experience and training in working with people with disabilities, including people who are neurodivergent and those with mental ill-health.

  • Have purchased adaptive equipment for use by festival attendees.

  • Have compiled a list of providers for any additional adaptive equipment that might be requested and set aside a budget for these expected costs.

When booking your ticket, you will have an option to inform the team of any accessibility requirements. If adjustments are possible for the courses you have selected, we will be in touch if anything remains to be discussed.

Wellbeing

  • We provide a well-being room accessible to all attendees. This will be a nice chill out space if you wish to take a break from the main activities or find a quiet space.

The wellbeing room includes stim toys, sensory activities, colouring books, and reading materials. You’re welcome to donate items to this room.

Please respect this space and keep quiet to not disrupt.

  • Our multi-faith room is designed for prayer, meditation, and contemplation, open to all faiths and beliefs.

Please respect this space and keep quiet to not disrupt.

  • Most attendees come to our events solo, however we know it can sometimes still be daunting. If you wish to be partnered with a buddy before and/or during the festival please contact us.

Carer Policy

A complimentary Carer / Personal Assistant (PA) ticket is available to attendees with disabilities who need essential support to attend the festival. To be eligible, the attendee must hold a General Admission ticket (this includes standard, pay-it-forward, bursary, and supported tickets).

Please note that we only have two carer tickets available due to funding constraints.

Please email: festival@wanderersofcolour.com to apply for a carer ticket.
